Q- are the Lambardoi and Kenyi the same?

A- Metriaclima lombardoi, Pseudotropheus lombardoi, or Pseudotropheus kennyi. This is the reason one should use the scientific (Latin/Greek) names. Sometime ago I found a fourth name for the same species although I don't remember it now. The fish is now called Matriaclima lombardoi.

Our Views

Identification and naming of species is often difficult for new hobbyists. Most Local Fish Stores try to use the "COOL" name to entice sales. This is fine for sales, but very bad for knowledge. When you buy fish try to ask for the SCIENTIFIC NAME so you will be better able to read about them in books and also to ask questions about your fish.

When describing your fish the accepted way of listing it is to capitalize the first letter of the first name and place the both italics. Any specific information about its derivative location or a nickname should be placed in quotation marks following its name. ie:.. Pseudotropheus elongatus, "Luhuchi".
