Q- Is Maracide Effective for Ich?

A- Nox-Ich seems to be the preference among most people, and it's what I personally use, but if it is not available, then there are other medications. The active ingredient in Nox Ich are Sodium Chloride and Malachite Green. Anything containing those 2 chemicals should be fine. Just ask the person working at the pet store about it. When adding salt, and the Ich medication, it is good to raise the temperature to around 88 degrees, but it is not necessary if u do not have a heater. It might take a little longer to clear up, but it will still go away with the salt and medication. Secondary Infections may occur, but may not. It's good to use the Tetracycline just to be on the safe side, although its not totally necessary. Hopefully you will see improvements on the appearance and behavior of your betas within a few days. Remember though that Betas are VERY stress filled fish. That's why its hard to keep them alive in a tank with other fish. Make sure you treat them carefully. Don't throw in all kinds of medications at once. Gradually add them causing the least amount of stress as possible.
