Q- what kind of silicone can I use on my tanks?
A- Look for silicone that has been approved by the FDA for food contact. FDA Reg # 21 CFR 177.2600. DAP model number 00688. GE Model
numbers GE012, GE112, GE312, or GE412. DAP on recommends that theirs be used on 30 gallon or less aquariums for sealing the tank. I am sure DAP or GE package the silicone you buy in the aquarium shops.Hope this helps.

Silicone can be found at the Home Depot for a reduced price normally. Most silicone does make a reference to the size tank it is rated for, be sure to watch these guidelines. The last issue on silicone is to let it set for AT LEAST the time listed on the product. This allows it to fully dry before coming into contact with water. Used correctly you can normally save a tank from the garbage and get some good use out of it for years to come.
