General Information:Serrasalmus elongatus has a very elongate appearance and habits that make it an interesting fish to keep. Best if kept as a solitary fish in a fairly large tank(75 US gallons+). The fish has a stalking-predatory hunting behaviour, and can move through the water with alarming speed. Its sleek body design enhances its ability to quickly strike prey and disable it, while it then finishes the task. This is not a very skittish fish, or one that is shy. I have had this fish follow my finger outside the tank and constantly lunge into the glass to strike!

Insights from keepers of this fish
I have kept this fish for over 1 year now. They are not a very timid fish and they seem to either eat fillet pieces or they need the space to hunt, by stalking and then darting after live prey. They also don't seem to need to eat but every 2-4 days. Great fish to have Ronald Nielson
