Map and Collection Data:
Verified by: This species name has not been discounted by science, but it has also not been accepted as being valid for a particular fish. This descriptive work at present lacks sufficient data to support this name being assigned to a fish, but Dr Fink did leave the name as available to possibly describe the P. Nattereri from the amazonas region. Insufficient data is avalable to substantiate this naming and therefore it was not included as being one of the three species of Pygocentrus that were described by Fink and Machado.
Visual ID of this fish
not available
Research Information:

Further research and collection data needs to be conducted in the field with laboratory examinations as well as aquaria(ecology) documentation of habits and activity. Extensive work has never been conducted on P. nattereri to describe the fish from various regions and therefore data does not exist to be able to describe this as a valid species. Work to examine regional variants of P. nattereri or to to discount this name along with P ternetzi has not been completed to my knowledge and has not been published. But it also has not been discounted.
