It has a widespread distribution along the Orinoco river basin from east to west, and its many tributaries. Visual ID of this fish
  • no orbital band, but a slight line above the iris and extending dorsally
  • caudal black terminal band
  • dorsal and pelvic fins are clear with pectoral showing reddish coloration
Research Information:

Further research needs to be conducted with aquaria(ecology) documentation of habits and activity. I will need more tiem to properly transalate and understand the descriptive paper. I will then post more information to this page as it becomes available.

Will accept any live freshwater fish used as a normal feeder fish, thawed frozen fish fillets, shrimp and other meat products.

General Information:

Serrasalmus Medinai from Venezuela has a thoroughly confused importing history. The fish has almost never been exported for the aquarium trade, but the Serrasalmus spilopleura CF has been imported under this name. This fish will hopefully enter the aquaria hobby in the near future.

The fish is not capable of being shoaled in most instances.

Breeding:

I have not been able to verify any claims to captive brreding of this species. No known instances of aquaria breeding.





Insights from keepers of this fish

This is not a difficult fish to keep. Best kept as a single specimen per tank.
